Recap: Hearing Health Hour Webinar Kickoff

By Lauren McGrath

On October 26, Hearing Health Foundation (HHF) hosted “Age-Related Hearing Loss: Problems and Solutions” on Zoom, the first installment of our new Hearing Health Hour webinar series. Hearing Health Hour webinars bring HHF supporters the latest developments in hearing and balance research through the voices of our Emerging Research Grants (ERG) alum community. All sessions include an interactive Q&A with the speaker.

This webinar was led by 2014 scientist Samira Anderson, Au.D., Ph.D. Anderson reviewed how hearing loss changes the way our brains respond to speech and how it may affect cognitive functions, such as working memory, and how hearing aid amplification can reverse these changes.

Anderson’s presentation was well-attended by HHF supporters, nearly reaching capacity, and prompted a number of thoughtful questions from the audience. Anil Lalwani, M.D., who is a member of HHF’s Board of Directors and the Head of the Council of Scientific Trustees, the body that governs the ERG program, opened and closed the presentation.
