My hearing loss was defined as “moderately severe, sloping upward to mild”—which basically means I don’t hear at all at the exact frequencies of my husband’s voice.

A Community, Shared

Like others with hearing loss I still sometimes have to fake being able to fully hear, but I have gained much more confidence and do not hesitate to ask people to recognize my hearing loss and make accommodations. I stay current on the newest technology for hearing loss and look forward to receiving this magazine to catch up on the HRP’s research efforts and each year’s new Emerging Research Grants scientists.

Family Ties

My own difficulty hearing came on so gradually it was hard to notice. But I do remember vividly the day I realized the difference between my left and right ears. I was then a parent of three young children, living in Bayonne in a two-family house with my mother.
