I was born normal and the theory is that my cochlea was damaged by a high fever at six months of age. My hearing loss was fully discovered at the age of thee years old. At six years of age I got fitted with my first body aid by Zenith - It was a big 4x6 box with a holster. When the hearing aid technology improved I obtained new hearing aids about every 5-6 years. My hearing progressively got worse as I got older. During this time I was mainstreamed in my formal education and attended college. During my life's journey I was able to work, have the roles as a wife, mother, etc. I got my 1st cochlear implant in 1999 and 2nd in 2008. The CIs have enhanced my life greatly as hearing aids no longer worked.
