A CURE FOR TINNITUS
 
The Hearing Restoration Project provides hope for people who have hearing loss as well as for those who have tinnitus.
 
As nearly all tinnitus case occur with hearing loss, a cure for hearing loss could also equal a cure for tinnitus. The HRP is a collaborative group of esteemed scientists in the US, UK, and Canada working together to regenerate hair cells in the inner ear to develop a genuine biologic cure for hearing loss and tinnitus in our lifetime.

Alongside the HRP, there is much additional research being conducted to develop therapies and new treatments to bring relief to tinnitus sufferers. Meet one researcher, a 2012 HHF Emerging Research Grant Recipient, who is working to identify the genes that are important for regeneration in the mammalian ear.

WHAT IS TINNITUS?
 
Tinnitus is the conscious experience of sound that originates in the head of the patient. It is hearing sound without an external, acoustic source. Roughly 90 percent of tinnitus cases occur with an underlying hearing loss. Learn more about tinnitus and its causes.

PEOPLE WITH TINNITUS
 
Tinnitus is the largest healthcare issue for returning veterans.  A new approach to progressive tinnitus management in veterans is being explored to help our service men and women alleviate the ear ringing.
 
Many musicians & artists experience tinnitus from years of exposing their ears to loud music.  Here several artists share their experience with tinnitus. HHF partners with the Les Paul Foundation which honors guitarist & songwriter Les Paul.
 
With an incidence rate roughly equal to that of adults, childhood tinnitus presents challenges for the young patient who may not have the ability to name the condition.
