Hearing Health Foundation (HHF) is the nation’s largest private nonprofit organization funder of research to prevent, treat and cure hearing loss. For almost 60 years, HHF has helped to establish some of the most important and innovative treatments for hearing loss and other related conditions. 

Our research activities are twofold: The Emerging Research Grants program provides funding for early-stage scientists to conduct research in a range of relevant topic areas.  In 2011, HHF expanded its research program by creating the Hearing Restoration Project (HRP), an international research consortium comprised of leading scientists working collaboratively toward a cure through hair cell regeneration. 
Experienced Board Members
The Board of Directors of Hearing Health Foundation is responsible for the leadership and governance of the organization, ensuring financial health and stability in order to achieve the mission. The Board works with in partnership with the CEO to set the strategic direction of the organization, while the CEO has primary oversight of day-to-day operations. 
HHF recently completed a five year strategic plan that outlines the organizations goals and objectives. This plan serves as the initial roadmap that will guide our efforts to raise at least $50 million over the next ten years.  The success of the plan is based on a focused commitment from each board member and the staff working together to deliver measurable results.
Specific Board Member expectations include:
Leadership, Governance, and Oversight
  • Serving as trusted adviser to the CEO and assist with implementation of the strategic plan
  • Review metrics for evaluating impact and assess performance and results delivered
  • Approving HHF’s annual budget, audit reports, and material business decisions; being informed of, and meeting all, legal and fiduciary responsibilities
  • Reviewing meeting agenda and becoming knowledgeable of supporting materials prior to board and committee meetings
  • Partnering with the CEO and other board members to ensure that board resolutions are carried out
  • Attending and participating in meetings on a regular basis, and at special events as able; acting as an ambassador for the organization
  • Serving and contributing to the work of committees, task forces, and ad-hoc committees
  • Assisting the CEO and Board Chair in identifying and recruiting other board members
  • Ensuring HHF’s commitment to a diverse board and staff that reflects the communities HHF serves
Fund Development
Hearing Health Foundation Board members will consider HHF a philanthropic priority and make annual gifts that reflect that priority. So that HHF can credibly solicit contributions from foundations, organizations, and individuals, HHF expects to have 100 percent of Board members make an annual contribution.
It is an exciting time to be part of the Hearing Health Foundation Board of Directors, which is currently comprised of 10 members including people with a direct connection to hearing loss, executives from corporations that serve the hearing loss community, researchers and medical professionals, and people with professional expertise that is fully leveraged by the organization.  
To support this effort HHF is looking for candidates that have a background or expertise in any of the following:
  • Experience serving on a board or working with volunteers
  • Nonprofit fund development, such as corporate funding resources and grant opportunities
  • Private sector new business development
  • Marketing and communications  experience with knowledge of digital
  • Building local grass-roots communities
Ideal candidates will have the following attributes: 
  • Strong and effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Extensive professional experience with significant executive leadership accomplishments in business, public sector philanthropy, or the nonprofit sector
  • Diplomatic skills and a natural affinity for cultivating relationships and persuading, convening, facilitating, and building consensus among diverse individuals
  • A commitment to and understanding of HHF with personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a passion for HHF’s vision and goals

Development Associate
The position will shepherd existing fundraising partnerships and establish new partnerships to raise funds and awareness for HHF. The position is located in New York City.
  • Assist with devising and implementing a development and stewardship plan including (planned giving, direct mail, events, online, major gifts, individual and corporate giving)
  • Proactively work to devise opportunities to create awareness among constituencies
  • Identify and assist with targeting prospect donors
  • Assist with sending out fundraising proposals, direct mail, and other donor communications
  • Call and personally thank some donors, prepare list for CEO to thank other donors
  • Keep detailed records of solicitation activities by CEO and self in RE
  • Assist with managing fundraising events
  • Work with outside company to file state employee giving campaigns and state registrations
  • Attend conferences and fairs to represent HHF
  • Prepare major donor correspondence
  • Other tasks as needed

Communications/Marketing Intern
HHF seeks a dynamic, self-starter to assist the Foundation's communications and marketing manager. This internship is an excellent opportunity to gain depth and breadth of experience within an established national nonprofit organization. Responsibilities (include but not limited to)
  • Communications: Drafting and editing blog posts, magazine articles, web and social media; assist with media outreach; drafting factsheets and other marketing collateral.
  • Website: Draft website content and provide website performance tracking and analysis.
  • Social Media: Assist in developing and implementing social media strategy and performance analysis.
  • Donor Communications: Research and draft donor-centric communications materials; assist with thank you calls to donors and other items as needed.
  • Other: Other projects will be assigned based off the intern's proven area of expertise, skill level, and projects pertinent to the Foundation. 
  • Completed or working toward a college degree, preferably in a related field (e.g., English, Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Nonprofit Management, or other relevant major)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (advance knowledge of Word, PowerPoint and Excel)
  • Proficiency in social media (advance knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.)
  • Previous internship or experience working in an office setting preferred
  • Professional telephone demeanor
  • An effective communicator, both written and oral skills

Social Media/Digital Communications Intern
Hearing Health Foundation (HHF) seeks a Social Media/Digital Communications Intern who will contribute to the development and implementation of a multi-platform social media strategy. Working closely with HHF’s communications team, the intern will be exposed to all aspects of HHF’s digital communications strategy and have the opportunity to develop experience within an established national nonprofit organization.
Responsibilities (include but not limited to)
  • Assist with the implementation of HHF’s social media strategy.
  • Develop digital content including blog posts, e-mail blasts and social media posts (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn).
  • Help monitor, enhance, and grow HHF’s social media presence on platforms including Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
  • Assist with editorial calendar management and influencer outreach.
  • Assist with social media metrics reporting, utilizing tools such as Facebook Analytics, HootSuite, etc.
  • Identify opportunities for HHF to build its social media presence.
  • Assist with assessing and analyzing HHF’s competitive social media performance.
  • Flag emerging trends in the digital space and provide recommendations on execution.
  • Completed or working toward a college degree, preferably in a related field (e.g., English, Marketing/Communications, Public Relations, Nonprofit Management, or other relevant major)
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills; attention to detail a must.
